Arizona Designated Strict Enforcement Area

Submitted by Laurie Peterson, February 20, 2009
AAA’s National Office has formally designated the state of Arizona as a Strict Enforcement Area under terms of the association’s process for identifying locations where unusually strict traffic law enforcement is used, or where Traffic Traps are in operation. This will be the first time an entire state has been designated a AAA Strict Enforcement Area.  A Strict Enforcement Area is one in which traffic laws and regulations are strictly enforced for valid reasons, such as improved traffic safety. No censure is implied by this designation, nor is it intended to be derogatory.

After preliminary review, AAA decided that Arizona’s unique and rapid implementation of fixed and mobile photo radar was the deciding factor in the designation. As a result of this decision a “strict enforcement” designation will be added to TripTik® routings -when itineraries include travel in and through the state of Arizona-   alerting them of the state’s deployment of fixed and mobile photo enforcement cameras.

In 2008, AAA provided 24 million TripTik® routings of which more than 21 million were generated online by members and counselors using the TripTik® Travel Planner on AAA.com. The individually tailored TripTik® routings include key travel information such as road construction, scenic highways, congestion areas and mileage and drive time estimates.

Oh great! I will be moving to Arizona in a month and will now have to watch my driving.

This is hard to believe since on every trip I feel like I am standing still at 85 MPH on the highways.
